Part of your social media marketing strategy is to post great content on Twitter. And as you start creating a steady stream of content, people are going to react to your tweets. Here are a few tips from Social Profit Formula on how to respond to different types of Twitter reactions without getting sucked into conversations that do not make money or add anything to building your business.
Reacting to retweets
What do you do when someone retweets you?
You don’t have to do anything. But if they retweet you just about every day, that means they are a big fan of yours and you may want to consider thanking them.
The problem with thanking a couple of people is that you might end up having to thank everyone, which is really a waste of your time and a waste of time for everyone following you as well.
Reacting to Follow Friday
Follow Friday is a Twitter Meme where users recommend their followers to follow a certain list of people.
Reacting to a Follow Friday is similar to how you would react to a retweet – do nothing or consider thanking them if they Follow Friday you a great deal.
Reacting to gratitude
Sometimes people will thank you for posting something really cool, informative, or entertaining. What do you do?
Reply and say, “You’re welcome.” You may also want to do additional research about that post and reply accordingly.
Reacting to approval
If people praise you, thank them through a direct message. As earlier mentioned, it is not advisable to say thank you through a reply because your message will be seen by your entire audience and their audience, as well as anyone who goes in and looks at your feed. Every time you want to thank people, consider doing it in private using a DM.
Reacting to inquiries
If people start asking questions, that means they are ripe for more information, potentially to become a customer for you. If they ask you something about your tweet, give them a great answer.
Some questions are really hard to answer in 120 to 140 characters. Lead them to a blog post or squeeze page where they can read your answers in more detail. Or you can ask them to DM you their contact information if they want to discuss the topic further.
As with any other public place on the Internet, Twitter can be vulnerable to identity theft so make sure that you don’t give out your private email, phone number and other personal contact information on the public Twitter feed.
Reacting to criticism
As part of a very diverse and interactive community, expect to receive criticism from time to time. What do you do if someone criticizes you?
If the criticisms are few and far between, then the proper response is to do nothing. However, if you are being called out frequently, that is a sign that you must be doing something wrong. Figure out the offensive patterns in your Twitter interaction and make sure that you don’t do them anymore.
Engaging people in Twitter is a great way to build your business through social media marketing. Follow these best practices and start making money from Twitter.
